Civil Wedding Ceremony
In Italy a Civil wedding ceremony (legally recognized marriages) must take place in a wedding hall approved by the local authorities.
Italian authorities do not recognize marriages in private villas or castles unless the ceremony is performed by a Protestant pastor recognized by the Italian government.
Also, civil weddings cannot take place outdoors - with the exception of 4 locations:
* Positano and Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast
* One location in the Lake Region
* One medieval hill town near Florence
Symbolic marriages can, however, take place anywhere in Italy - there are no restrictions.
The Italian wedding halls we use are very beautiful villas or ancient palazzos with views or gardens and not cold sterile government buildings.
A Mayor or Vice-Mayor performs the Italian marriage ceremony, not a minister or anything that is religious. You may personalize your civil marriage ceremony with music, readings and have about 30 minutes available.
