Weddings in Private Chapels
There are hundreds of wedding spots in Italy where you can celebrate intimate weddings in private chapels. The Italian Aristocracy built these chapels for themselves and also the monasteries in Italy always had their own private chapel so that they could sing and hear Mass very early every morning and so did small towns that could not afford a larger church.
A small chapel allowed the same local priest to celebrate Mass in more than one location on Sunday or on any other day.
Today these chapels in Italy can be use for both Catholic as well as Protestant marriage ceremonies where it is permitted. The interior of the Italian chapels varies from very simple to ornate with frescos from famous Medieval, Renaissance masters to more recent Italian painters of the 19th century. The same is true on the outside with the architecture.
Most private chapels are tied into a building complex so in some cases you can have your marriage ceremony as well as the wedding reception and even the accommodations in the very same wedding place.
