Destination Weddings in Ravenna

Celebrate a romantic Italian wedding in Ravenna, an elegant town close to the Romagna coast whose magnificent past is still very much evident in its wonderfully preserved ancient buildings.

Ravenna was capital of the western Roman Empire, and subsequently capital of the Byzantine Empire. Art and culture continue to thrive in this historic town, which is most famous for the stunning mosaics which decorate its religious buildings.

These outstanding mosaics are protected by UNESCO, and the most impressive are widely agreed to be those that cover the 6th century San Vitale cathedral. This immaculate octagonal structure from the Byzantine era has to be seen to be believed. Several Roman churches from the 4th and 5th centuries remain in pristine condition, and are fascinating to wander round. Also highly recommended is the 6th century Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo.

A cultural center of international renown many centuries ago, Ravenna continues to be home to some world class art. Just a couple of the highlights of the many museums in the town are the contemporary mosaics at the City Art Museum and the 14th century frescoes at the National Museum.

Ravenna is a lively place, filled with appealing cafés, restaurants and shops. Markets are regularly held in the center of the old town, selling art, antiques and handicrafts.

No less than nine beach resorts are within easy reach of Ravenna, plus wild marshes, woods and nature reserves to explore. There is also a herb garden in the town itself, located between two Royal Palaces.

Ravenna is a lovely, welcoming town, whose beautiful architecture and world-class museums and galleries cannot fail to impress. Your wedding in Ravenna will be an experience to treasure forever.
