Unique Characteristics of the Merano Castle Wedding Hall
The only thing more picturesque and quaint than the town of Merano is its miniature castle wedding hall rising in the historic center. This spa town is filled with character with flower-bordered streets, houses with painted facades, a lively cosmopolitan center and is surrounded by magnificent mountains which in spring and summer explode with wild flowers. The wedding hall is best for groups under 40 and is part museum with its elaborately carved wooden walls and furnishings reflecting the rich artistic and historical heritage.
Built in the second half of the fifteen century as a residence of the duke Sigismund of Austria, in 1516 the emperor Maximilian I stayed here.
During the following centuries it was neglected and fell into disrepair. The town of Merano bought the castle in 1875 and restored it to its former glory.
