Special Features
Ravenna's existence dates back to Roman times but reached its apex during the 6th to 8th centuries. Ravenna belonged to the Eastern Roman Empire - the Byzantine Empire and its culture and architecture during this period were heavily influenced by Constantinople. The indelible hand of Byzantium is omnipresent, particularly visible in the stunning mosaic masterpieces found everywhere, but culminating in the Church of San Vitale and Sant' Apollinare Nuovo.
Looking up at the ceilings and domes, is a sky of deep blue mosaic with countless gold stars. Gold and brilliant colors sourround you. The unique churches and buildings create a magical atmosphere for a one of a kind wedding destination that is anything but the "usual thing".
Ancient and modern mosaic tiles can still be purchased in the many local studios and art shops. These could make memorable wedding favors for your guests!
After your civil wedding ceremony, as a special gift to the couple getting married in Ravenna, the Mayor will give the newlyweds a beautiful book on the city of Ravenna and its Byzantine Mosaics and a parchment Italian marriage certificate.
