Sicily. The name conjures so many beautiful, almost magical images that it is hard to know what to focus on first. If you have dreamed of a seaside wedding on a beautiful island, then you must consider the advantages of a wedding on the gorgeous island of Sicily, just off the tip of the boot of Italy.
From the very ancient to the very modern, the Island of Sicily has everything you have ever dreamed of!
Sicily is the largest island in Europe and has – literally – something for everyone. No matter what your wedding fantasies are, you can bring them to life here on the lush green island of Sicily. There are ancient ruins and medieval castles and churches side-by-side with five-star hotels and restaurants.
Unlike man European countries, Italy has no residency requirement and no waiting period for non-Italians who wish to get married on Sicily or anywhere else in Italy. You should, however, plan on arriving in Italy at least three business days prior to your wedding date just to insure that all of your paperwork is in order. A professional and experienced wedding planner can make sure everything is in order and relieve you of a great deal of unnecessary stress.
You will start with a civil ceremony followed immediately by the religious or symbolic ceremony that you have always dreamed of.
Religious wedding are difficult to arrange on Sicily until after a civil service has been performed. Your civil service will be performed in or around the town wedding hall and may very well be performed by the Mayor of the town you have chosen. Fortunately, in deciding to hold your wedding in Sicily, you have your choice of literally hundreds of gorgeous wedding halls.
In the charming and ancient town of Taormina, for example, weddings can be conducted in a stunning 17th century wedding hall or out of doors in a 15th century plaza. In virtually every town and village in Sicily you have similarly lovely choices for the site of your civil ceremony. In many cases your ceremony can be conducted in English, and in a setting too wonderful for words.
Once your civil ceremony is completed, you can have a religious ceremony in any of hundreds of ancient or modern Catholic churches spread across the island. Many of the churches are several hundred years old and come complete with relics that are even older.
Protestant and symbolic wedding ceremonies can be conducted almost anywhere on the island, from the site of the most ancient ruins to the tops of mountains, to yachts sailing off the coast or in fancy ballrooms at five star hotels.
