The architecture of these gardens, as it is called in Italian, was an art and science all of its own that had its great experts of the time.

The French, Italian and English were so keen on making sure that their residences and mansions were the most attractive in Europe that they often crosses national lines and hired architects from another rival country. The result you have today is that some of the nicest gardens in Europe can be used to marry in, especially with symbolic ceremonies.
