How to Get Married in Italy

The information required for American citizens on how to get married in Italy is provided on this web page.

If you have U.S. Citizenship and are thinking about getting married abroad in Italy you will need to know what we have provided below.

US consulates do not marry anyone, nor can they. They simply provide the help necessary for you to complete the paperwork requirements so that a representative of the country of Italy, usually the mayor, can marry you with a civil marriage ceremony in one of the several thousands of public town halls scattered throughout Italy.

An essential document you will need to complete is the Nulla Osta. Copy, paste and print the Nulla Osta located at the link we have provided and complete it without signing it. After that bring it in and sign it in front of one of the four US Consular Offices located in Italy that we have listed below.

The US Consulates also provide the following information for couples planning a marriage ceremony in Italy – click the appropriate link below:

•    US Consular District of Milan located in Milan, Italy
•    US Consular District of Florence located in Florence, Italy
•    US Consular District in Rome located in Rome, Italy
•    US Consular District of Naples located in Naples, Italy

N.B. Call before coming in to a US Consulate and confirm exactly what hours they are open and what days they will be closed for whatever reason. Call and make an appointment and write down the name of the person you made the appointment. Arrive early and not near they time they close.
