Marry in a church in Italy and you will have many to choose from.

There are also many small private chapels in Italy as well as some world famous cathedrals that will make you feel pretty small when you stand right beside them.

All the economic resources of the different towns in Italy were often devoted to building the local church. Building it bigger, better, taller, more beautiful and more ornate than anyone else was the major town objective. Sometimes, in the same city, there were several contrade or neighborhoods that would compete with each other and the competition would go on for generations and even centuries to see who would win.

In the end the winner was the church with the more ornate and well designed architectural features and that attracted the most complements – especially those of foreigners.

The ultimate judge was and is the person who comes from another country and says your church is the most beautiful I have seen that and it is where I want to get married.
